Rapid expansion of respiration therapy

Low-cost pressurized helmets for non-invasive CPAP ventilation of COVID-19 patients

The Oregon State University Fast Response Respiration (OFRR) initiative is addressing an acute global shortage of ventilators by providing affordable and scalable options for treating COVID-19 patients.

The OFRR team has identified a pathway to produce more than 100,000 ventilation systems per month—equal to the total current U.S. supply of ventilator machines. Proven effective in treating mild-to-moderate Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), these non-invasive ventilation (NIV) systems can be used directly with hospital oxygen with no additional equipment needed.
